An innkeeper afraid of love. A farmer desperate to protect his son. Will their shared hurts heal or destroy each other?

Return to Everton for the story hidden in the shadows of The Secret of Drulea Cottage. . . .

In a Scottish village where mythical creatures walk amongst humans, the innkeeper's daughter works hard to maintain her neighbors' respect. But between running Everton Inn and protecting her best friend’s secret, Adaira’s life is filled to the brim, and it’s all she can do to keep everything under control.

When Adaira’s first love returns to town with mysterious new friends, her orderly life begins to crack. Skeletons from her past start creeping out of the closet, skeletons that threaten much more than just her reputation.

When recently widowed John Burgess arrives in Everton, he doesn't intend to stay long. Relationships are dangerous, and keeping his distance from the village residents is necessary to protect his son.

But the more time he spends there, the more John realizes raising William alone might be more than he can handle. And that Everton Inn holds a magic of its own, one that could keep him there forever if he’s not careful.

Only together can Adaira and John prevent William from being lost, but that may require more honesty than either of them is willing to give.

READ A PREVIEW

The woman looked up at John as water slid down her cheeks. This was pain, raw and exposed. Without pretense. Without excuse. Completely vulnerable.

And it was altogether too much for him to take.

John grasped her hands in his own and lifted her to her feet. He rubbed his thumbs against her knuckles in what he hoped was a soothing gesture as he said, “Mistress Stubbins, I know ’tis na my place to say anything, but I can’ stand the thought o’ you believing you deserved any o’ that. I dinna know how yer father can’ see how blessed he is. Why, yer the heart and soul o’ this town!”

Mistress Stubbins sniffled, and John closed his mouth, fearing he’d somehow made her feel worse. But then she leaned against him, placing her head on his chest and wrapping her arms around his back.

John’s body went stock-still, but inside, his heart was pounding so loudly he was sure she could hear it.
